With this article, we hope to explain to you the difference between a rain shower and a bulk shower! In fact, a rain shower is used to mean broadly the same thing as a bulk shower. Nevertheless, there is a difference. The jets of a rain shower create finer waterdrops that also come from a wide head. The head in this case can be square or round, but the effect remains the same. With a bulk shower, the water falls right down with thicker jets, giving the effect of a waterfall.

In recent years, better and better techniques have been developed to reduce (excessive) water consumption. Compared to the traditional shower, the rain shower naturally uses just a bit more water, but it does not make much difference. So you do not have to feel burdened by it. With a hand shower, which is almost always fitted, you can then rinse off further if necessary.

Many people think of a bulk shower the same as a rain shower. The major difference of a rain shower is that it requires much more water than a rain shower. In a shorter time, much more water is produced. As mentioned earlier, with a rain shower you feel like you are in a normal rain shower, while with a rain shower it feels more like a downpour. In addition, bulk showers also needs more (water) pressure. Nowadays there are more and more rain showers and bulk showers that are built into the ceiling. The pipes are then processed behind the walls and in the ceiling. This ensures, among other things, that your bathroom gets a nicer and more stylish look.

The most common reason for people to purchase a rain shower is the nice experience it brings. The jets provide relief after a stressful and tense day! An added benefit is also that you can build some rain showers completely into the ceiling. This ensures that the shower rods or hoses are no longer visible at all. In many cases, the rain showers also come with a normal hand shower so that you can easily alternate between the two shower heads.

Something to think about is that a rain shower consumes more water than a regular showerhead. A regular showerhead consumes an average of 11 liters of water/minute, in extreme cases a rain shower can consume 25 liters of water/minute.

Advantages and disadvantages bulk shower

Buying a bulk shower involves some technicalities.

If we look at the water use of the rain shower, the consequences are often minimal. Normally, your home’s water supply and drainage system can handle the amount of water. Although we make an exception for very old homes, where the diameter of the pipes may not be sufficient. In the case of a water-saving bulk shower, the situation is somewhat different.

Despite the water-saving element of such a mechanism, such a type of showerhead still uses more water. This means that more water is used in a shorter time. Therefore, it is important to check whether your hot water system and piping have sufficient capacity for this. So this is definitely important to take into account when buying a shower!
