How to get a victorian sink for your bathroom

Reading Time: 3 minutes

When designing a vintage bathroom, the washbasin is another element to take into account. Unlike what we might think at first, we don’t have to limit ourselves to a Victorian sink or a pedestal basin to get a vintage style. The trick often lies in knowing how to combine the sink with the rest of the elements.

Here are some tips on how to achieve a victorian sink depending on the type of basin:

Add legs to your victorian sink

Choose a rectangular shape and add legs to it. It doesn’t matter if it’s a simple design, because we’ll get the retro finish through the legs. Basically, you have two options: ceramic or metal legs. We call this combination victorian sink.

Hide pipes with a victorian pedestal

Pedestal basins were very popular for many years. You could find this type of basin in any bathroom. That’s why we automatically associate the pedestal basin with retro style. You can find very elaborate designs characterised by having the bottom part of the pedestal wider.

Choose a more elaborate design

Although wall hung basins are also a good option, in this case we recommend you choose an option with a more elaborate design. Stay away from simple designs. In this case we are looking for a victorian wall hung basin with angles and curves. In addition, an exposed chrome siphon will give it that antique touch that we are looking for.

Play with the countertop or vanity unit

Up to this point we have talked about more elaborate designs; however, you should know that you can also opt for a simple piece. The most important thing in this case is how you combine it rather than the basin itself. We will play with the materials in the furniture to balance the basin’s simplicity.

Using materials such as marble and wood we will achieve that vintage finish. We can place a countertop over an undermount basin: a wood bathroom countertop, a simple and affordable option that will give a classic touch to the whole, or a marble bathroom sink countertop, which is more expensive but will give a very elegant and luxurious touch to the room.

Another option is to use bathroom furniture.  We can opt for a wooden victorian sink vanity unit with a marble countertop or a wooden dresser.

Choose a victorian sink with the necessary holes

When buying a washbasin for your bathroom, you will also need to consider the tap you are going to combine it with. No matter which tap you choose, make sure you get a basin with the necessary holes.

The 3 hole basin taps are the classic option with which you will not be mistaken. However, for the more adventurous, you can combine it with wall mounted taps for a more alternative vintage effect.

These were some tips on how to combine the washbasin for a Victorian bathroom. Are there any tips we haven’t mentioned? Let us know in the comments!
