The best way to reduce your water bill is to get to the root of the problem. We give you some simple tips and tricks that will help you save water easily.
Save water in the shower
Taking showers instead of baths is the first step. You can imagine that you need more water for a bath than when you take a shower. But: be careful! If you take three-hour showers, it will be rather worse than better. It’s all in the balance. Here are some tips on how to use less water during your shower time.
Choosing the right shower head
If you haven’t already known, you can get shower heads which use less water. Many brands offer this water saving option and depending on the model, it will save you more or less water. In any case, it’s a bonus for you, but especially for your wallet! It’s worth paying a few extra euros up front because you’ll save a lot more later.
One idea that we liked a lot, but which is not always easy to implement, is to install a cistern which reuses water used in the shower and directs it to the toilet. Thanks to a special filter, the water can be reused. The only problem is that you have to have enough space for it. It is also an investment to be decided after having thought about it properly, since it isn’t quite a cheap purchase.
In the kitchen
First of all, it is a question of practising good habits, as you would say with anything. Simple things like turning off the water directly or not running half-empty dishwashers are the basics for saving water. If you are already doing these things, different brands offer spare parts that can help you additionally.
For example, you can find water-saving aerators. This part, which is placed at the very end of a tap, can also be used to use less water. Grohe has a wide range of this type of product. In addition, you have the Grohe guarantee of 5 years. You can find them in our spare parts section.
It is also important to check the kitchen and bathroom regularly for leaks. A small leak can quickly turn into a disaster if it is not detected in time.
In the bathroom
The ideal solution is obviously to choose a dry toilet but this is not possible for everyone. You have to take into account, that it requires a little more work than, let’s say, a “classic” toilet. To save as much water as possible in the toilet, you should not hesitate to be a little creative. Indeed, some forums show people who flush every other time or something like that, but we think that it is not a very hygienic option. A “small” flush represents 3 litres of water each time and doing it every other time can save a lot of money per year. It’s up to you again!
