If your work consists of replacing an already existing toilet, it is a pretty straight forward process. On the other hand, if your installation is new and needs plumbing work, leave it to a professional. If the first option is your concern, then here is how to fit a toilet!
How to fit a toilet step 1: Before the installation
- Before dismantling the old toilet, turn off the water supply and flush the toilet to empty the cistern. Then by using a sponge, remove the remaining water.
- Concerning the pan connector, choose between a horizontal or vertical one depending on your previous installation.
- Now start dismantling the old toilet by unscrewing and removing the toilet supply line on the cistern.
- Unscrew the fittings on the floor, remove the old toilet, and clean the drain pipe.
- Now put temporary the toilet pan connector into the drainpipe to see if it fits.
How to fit a toilet step 2: Feature the toilet
The flush mechanism
Inside the cistern, you can find two separate systems. One that fills the cistern with water, and the other that transfers this water into the bowl.
Depending on which toilet you have, the flushing system is already set. If not, here is how to install it:
- Uncover the seal from the mechanism and check if it fits the hole. If your toilet features a lateral float, it needs to be placed on the opposite side of the refilling mechanism.
- Attach the cistern from underneath and tighten the ring with the provided material. Each screw is paired with seals and waterproof pieces. Make sure to follow the notice for the installation order.
- Place the rubber seal, then install the cistern.
- Screw from underneath the bowl and make sure to thoroughly squeeze the seal to keep the waterproofness.
How to fit a toilet step 3: Attach the toilet bowl
- Connect temporary the toilet with the pan connector.
- Keep a gap of 10 cm between the cistern and the wall
- Level the toilet with the spirit level
- Mark the fixation points on the floor
- Remove the toilet and drill the holes on the fixation marks with a hammer drill.
- Now coat the inside of the PVC drain pipe with glue for a couple of centimetres
- Then put right away the pan connector in, before the glue drys out.
- Leave it for 5 minutes, then put the toilet back in place.
- Level one last time the toilet with the spirit level. Then squeeze the screws at the base and put the screw covers on.
- Fix the toilet seat that is provided with the set or replace it by one of your choices.
How to fit a toilet step 4: Connect the water supply
- Connect the seal to the threaded fitting of the supply valve.
- Lead it down into the cistern and get the threaded part through the lateral hole.
- Screw the nut from outside of the cistern without. Keep a bit of loose.
- From the other side of the cistern, lock the hole with a screw cover
- Connect the supply tube to the shutoff valve
How to fit a toilet step 5: Put the toilet into use
- Adjust the level of water by screwing both in ways
- Then open the water supply and check the flushing
