Are bidets back in fashion?

Bidets have existed for a very long time and are considered sometimes to be old-fashioned. However, a modern version of it is currently making its big come-back in British bathrooms. Indeed, bidets are symbols of cleanliness and luxury and will look perfect alongside your toilet system and basin. Its sophisticated yet modern design will certainly be an asset to make your bathroom ever so elegant. The unique and original history of the bidet is also worth mentioning as it will give you something to share with your family and friends! Bidets are usually used for to clean your privates. However, its use goes far beyond that! Whether to rinse your feet or your hair, to give your dog a bath or to clean dirty clothes, a bidet will definitely come in handy in your bathroom! It can also be useful for elderly and disabled people, so that they may attend to their personal hygiene by themselves. To bidet or not to be?

Bidets are an indispensable part of any bathroom. There are two types of bidets: wall-mounted bidets and floor standing bidets (categorisation is the same as for toilet bowls). We offer several types of shapes: oval, ronde, rectangular or half-circle. Generally, we advise to choose the shape of the bidet accordingly to the shape and style of the toilet. So, for example an octagonal bidet with a mixing faucet will look nice in a Victorian-style bathroom. In any case, always make sure you have a sufficient amount of space in your bathroom to place it. This large item is actually easy to set up and once fixed to the ground it will prove itself to be stable and sturdy.

Choosing the right bidet for you!

Please do not forget to check that its size as well as its depth correspond to your expectations before buying the product. The fixing kit is usually included when buying wall-mounted bidets. Most models also come with an overflow reservoir and a tap ledge. However mixing taps are not included with the bidets, so please check the product description to see which tap will go on your bidet. Some taps will allow you to orientate the jet of water to your will. This function is quite similar to that available on Japanese toilets, such as the Sensia Arena Japanese toilet. Bidets are more hygienic than basic toilets and use less water than bathtubs.

Regarding the materials used, most bidets are made of ceramic plus or sanitary porcelain. An overlayer is available on some models and will help protect the surface of your bidet, making it easier to clean and shine for longer. These overlayers are named differently depending on the brands, in Duravit’s case it is called « Wonderglide », Ideal Standard calls it “Ideal +” while Villeroy & Boch uses the name “Ceramic +”. Bidets are usually white and some are available in several variations of white.
